What do construction mechanics do?
The profession of a construction mechanic can be divided into four different specializations: equipment technology, sheet metal, welding or metal, or shipbuilding technology. They work based on construction drawings, assembly, functional, circuit, and welding plans. For larger components, they use transport equipment and lifting devices to move them. Sawing, marking, cutting, and bending sheets and profiles is also no problem for them. They master various joining techniques (such as welding and soldering) and select the appropriate welding equipment and additives depending on the welding task, setting the equipment precisely. Additionally, they treat the materials and components before and after welding with heat.
Other activities include:
- Joining (connecting) metal parts by welding
- Preparing the components to be welded by sawing, shearing, thermal cutting (flame cutting), bending, and straightening
- Selecting suitable welding methods and the necessary welding additives and auxiliary materials (electrodes, shielding gas)
